Blake Fuller

Like many guys I was always a fan of racing and grew up watching my father drive and go to race tracks. While I am not a second generation racer, I am definitely a second generation car lover. While I actually started racing Mountain Bikes it was when I went Mountain Biking in Colorado that I first saw the type of racing I wanted to do, rally! I was up at Pikes Peak and watched a race where Rhys was actually drifting by me in his Supra (not to make you feel old Rhys) and I knew this was something I could do and wanted to start right away! The very next year I built a civic rally car and then went and tackled the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, all 156 turns and 14,000 feet of elevation. My effort earned me the title Pikes Peak Rookie of the Year in 1999. My love for rallying and racing also found me competing and winning rallies, touring car events and even a few drag races. However, it was an experimental Acura Integra that was being built for the Pikes Peak Hill Climb that first got me into drifting. This car could either be set up for AWD or RWD. We wanted to play around with the RWD setting so we took it to some events. I found drifting to be so challenging that I continued to go to events to better myself as a driver. That Integra with its 30% rearward weight balance taught me more about car control than any other car I have owned. I look back at this 9,000 rpm lightweight rear wheel drive car with the same fondness that many drifters respect the AE86 Corolla.
I now appreciate drifting as an art and a competition sport. While I have been sliding cars for many years, every event I attend opens my eyes to new ways to add style and flavor to my drifting. I would call my style, “planned aggression” as I love to put on a show for the fans! My theory about drifting that if you aren’t putting it all on the line the judges and the fans know.
My quotable statement for 2008 is, “We now have more comfortable shoes than at any point in history, yet we do less walking than we ever have!”
