Formula DRIFT took part in the Long Beach Skate Jam and Car Show this past weekend. Former Long Beach Council member, and now California Assembly Member Bonnie Lowenthal, New Long Beach Fire Department Chief Palatano, and Formula DRIFT president Jim Liaw addressed the kids that attended. Drivers Ken Gushi and Ross Petty also met with the kids and showed their competition vehicles along with the Tanaka Racing / Nitto Tires Corvette. Long Beach Fire Department also served hot dogs to all the skaters and BMX riders. Overall, great event that gave back to the community raising awareness for both action sports and drifting.

The event is supported by the Long Beach Fire Fighters Association, Long Beach Parks and Recreation, Long Beach Police Department, Tony Hawk Foundation, Etnies, Long Beach Rescue Mission, and Formula D. This event encourages kids to stay in school and out of gangs, while the skate park offers an alternative positive activity for the neighborhood.

Fox 5 Atlanta came to Road Atlanta to check out some of the drifting action today. They wanted to gather a few of the champions together so Chris Forsberg, Tanner Foust, and Samuel Hubinette put on a show for the cameras. Co-Founder Jim Liaw was also interviewed to explain the history of the sport and what Formula DRIFT is all about. If you’re in the Atlanta area be sure to check out the footage during the news broadcast around 6:50 PM, 10:45 PM or 11:20 PM time frame.

Well, I am actually writing this latest entry as I am now back in LA after a 20 hour trek back across the Pacific from Singapore. I took quite a bit of video on the final day in Sing so I will be working on a small video blog that will hopefully encapsulate the competition and the dominant win by Malaysia’s Tenku Djan. Here are a few pics from our last day and a cool vid of our sound guy singing some GNR. This guy was pretty epic. He told us he was a lounge singer so of course we were provoking him to belt out some choons all day. Guy had a wicked good voice.
