In addition, the video footage captured by the Contour HD cameras will be utilized to create exciting video for the fans to enjoy on VHOLDR.com. ContourHD is the official camera of the Full Tilt Poker Mazda Nitto Drift Team. “We activated the ContourHD cameras right away and they produced the utmost highest quality video footage we have ever seen. On top of that we were able to really study the real-time mechanical dynamics of the Full Tilt Poker Mazda Nitto RX8. The footage is extremely useful and important in tuning the car. ContourHD cameras are a must for any professional race team!” Said Ed Bergenholtz Chief of Data Analysis for the Full Tilt Poker Mazda Nitto Drift Team.

ContourHD is the world’s first High Definition wearable camcorder that combines amazing video clarity (choose between High Definition or High Action), a wide-angle lens (135 degrees), single-button simplicity, and a click to share online experience. Perfected for outdoor use, ContourHD can switch between crisp HD quality video (captured at 30 frames per second) or SD quality video (captured at 60 frames per second). This camera is the ideal complement to your outdoor gear with its all-in-one design ContourHD has no wires or separate recorder. Instead it records up to 8 hours of HD video to its own internal memory card (compatible with up to a 16 GB microSD card). Its light (4 ounces) but armored aluminum body enables you to capture video in any weather conditions. ContourHD’s Trail Mounts seamlessly attach the camera to your body, helmet, goggles, or vehicle for hands-free recording.

One Button Record
ContourHD’s operation couldn’t be simpler, as it features a single oversized record switch that you can use even when you’re wearing a pair of gloves. Slide the switch forward to record and slide it back to stop–congratulations, you just made a video! Now you can capture the best scenes right before they happen.

Easy to Align
Have you ever seen a camera with lasers? ContourHD uses two of them and a 192o rotating lens to ensure you line up the shot every time. Turn on the lasers and rotate the front lens until the two laser points are horizontally aligned. Congratulations, you just lined up your video.

Behind the Scenes – Designing the Need for Speed Livery

SpeedHunters.com put out a great article on the behind the scenes in designing the teams’ livery. They did a great job explaining the design process.

By Andy Blackmore
It is is quite unusual, as a designer, to be allowed to show the design process and show the designs which didn’t make it, but thanks to Speedhunters, I’m able to share some of the behind the scenes work on the Team Need for Speed livery design.

I started sketching some ideas for the Team Need for Speed livery on the last day of 2009. Rod and Patrick had introduced me to the Team Need for Speed concept and it was my task to create a livery which would work in multiple arenas. Not an easy task, on one hand it was a great opportunity, but the on other hand it was ‘how the hell am I going to pull that off!’

I have been very fortunate and have designed hundreds of liveries in my time, around 60 have seen the light of day. Many stay inside unsuccessful sponsorship proposals which teams and drivers had presented. This was probably the hardest design to work on…. well there was this Panoz livery once…..

We knew early on, Team Need for Speed would make its debut in GT racing and Drifting. Two diverse disciplines. In order for the livery to work and be recognizable as a Team Need for Speed identity it had to have a strong graphic which set itself apart from other cars on the grid.

The livery had to work in both arenas, which was an additional challenge.

Over 238,500 Unique Viewers Tune-In for DriftStream’s coverage of Formula DRIFT Round 2: Road to the Championship

Long Beach, Calif. – May 13, 2010 – Formula DRIFT continued the new DriftStream with YoParts.com at Round 2: Road to the Championship registering a massive 238,500 unique viewers watching the event live. Formula DRIFT and YoParts.com partner with Justin.tv to distribute the live stream. Over 128 countries tuned in to watch the action at Road Atlanta.

“The first live stream had over 78,000 unique IP’s, this one registered 238,500 unique IP’s. These numbers are absolutely ground-breaking,” said Ryan Sage, co-founder of Formula DRIFT. “We are talking about a minimum of 238,000 people that chose to watch the broadcast, and not just random clicks. These numbers don’t even take into account anyone else in the room of the specific IP registered. If we were using Nielson TV ratings, these numbers would be closer to 500,000 individual viewers. This is a massive home run.”

Formula DRIFT and YoParts.com have partnered with Justin.tv, the easiest way to share live video, to help feed the DriftStream across multiple channels. Justin.tv specializes in live streaming and helps engage with the live audience.

“Justin.tv is very excited about the partnership with Formula DRIFT. Formula D’s content is a perfect use case of our platform – great, professionally created content that needs an outlet to reach its global fanbase,” said Kevin Lin, COO of Justin.tv. “The test broadcast of the Road to the Championship event in Atlanta on Justin.tv drew over 200,000 unique viewers in the first day. Clearly there are drift fans out there anxious to get access to these live events, and Justin.tv is going to be that source for them.”

“After just two events the future of the DriftStream is looking bright! We were able to deal with some pretty difficult technology challenges and with the help of our DriftStream chat audience we were able to fine tune the stream each day,” said Tom Masiero, co-founder of YoParts.com. “This event we implemented a new feature that that included the behind the scenes audio from the Official Radio chatter that received rave reviews. This event would not have been possible without our sponsors Royal Purple, Mishimoto, Need for Speed, RacingJunk.com and Belle-1 Communications. We are looking forward to Round 3: The Gauntlet in Wall, NJ with some great new features for the Formula Drift Fan base!”

The Drift Stream will continue at Round 3: The Gauntlet on June 4-5 in Wall, NJ when Formula DRIFT returns to Wall Speedway.
